ENGAGE IN ENTREPRENEURIAL DEVELOPMENT
Work with GMS to create opportunities for alumni to increase their knowledge and skills regarding entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship, and economic empowerment.
Relevant Skills/Experience: (small) business development, management, microfinance, social entrepreneurship, community development, finance, non-profit management, and other relevant skills/experiences.
LAUNCH PARTNERSHIPS FOR INTERNSHIPS & JOBS
Building on the partnership being developed with NASA and ACS, GMSA can partner with companies and agencies to ensure Gates Scholars and Alumni gain access to internships and jobs.
Relevant Skills/Experience: human resources, corporate management, advertising, program design and management, public relations, connections with large agencies/corporations and other relevant skills/experiences.
PREPARE ALUMNI FOR POLITICS AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT
With the 2016 elections, national and global financial concerns, and many social justice issues impacting our communities and this world, now is the time to prepare GMS Alumni for pathways into key leadership roles to shape America’s future.
Relevant Skills/Experience: politics, law, community organizing, activism/advocacy, criminal justice, social media, and other relevant skills/experiences.
ENGAGE IN MY BROTHERS KEEPER INITIATIVE
With GMS support and utilizing local chapters and scholars, GMSA will mobilize alumni to accept the President’s challenge to contribute to close opportunity gaps for our youth.
Relevant Skills/Experience: youth development, education, social services, arts/creativity, connection to community organizations, connection to national agencies, navigating barriers facing minority males, social media, and other relevant skills/experience.
ENCOURAGE AND SUPPORT GRADUATE STUDIES
Create a system of support for alumni pursuing graduate studies in the seven funded areas and beyond and promote graduate studies with current scholars as early as freshmen year.
Relevant Skills/Experience: experience in graduate studies with/without accessing GMS funding, mentoring, social media, and other relevant skills/experiences.
